Walderslade Judo Club was opened in January 1996, with just a handful of members and a second-hand mat area badly in need of replacing. Almost from the beginning, work began on raising funds to replace the existing mats and in February 1999 the club took possession of a brand new contest area.
Attendance steadily grew and soon members began to take an active part in local and national competitions. Many club members have now won medals at national and even international events.
In 1998 Walderslade Judo Club was one of only three Medway based sports clubs to be awarded a prestigeous 'Sports Club Award' by Medway Council and in 1999 and 2001 club members won National Player of the Year awards. All of the club's Coaches are fully qualified and have been CRB checked.
In 2007 the club was awarded it's Sport England Clubmark and BJA Club Recognition Scheme Bronze Award.
We organise a number of events of our own each year, including free gradings for those under Yellow Belt, an annual individual championship, a team championships and try to organise at least one international trip each year, to either compete in a championship or train with foreign judoka.
