The Kent County Grading was attended by 4 senior club members all of whom had successes. Both Jose Giorgini and Garry Ansell had a good day and moved to Orange Belt in their first grading. Louise Parsons moved to Lower Blue and Steve Stacy gained an additional 10 points towards his 1st Dan leaving him with 60 in total and just 40 more to go.
The clubs only junior at the grading was Wayne Russell who gained promotion to Top Blue after some exciting contests.
Our link with the Greenacre School saw 5 of the club’s Coaches and trainee Coach Scott Riley, deliver an ‘Open Day of Judo’ at Greenacre Specialist Sports College on Monday 11th February.
Pupils from four local schools and the Sports College itself, all took part in hour long lessons throughout the day. Each of the club’s Coaches led one session each and all of the children seemed to enjoy their experience of judo greatly. Throughout the day, just over 190 children from the local Primary, Junior and Secondary schools learned the basics of Ukemi and studied Tai Otoshi and Mune Gatame.
Enjoy Judo Schools Judo Coach, Steve Stacy led the first session for 40 pupils, all of whom responded really well and demonstrated a good grasp of the techniques taught. The day finished with 50 pupils from Ridge Meadow Primary School on the mat and a great deal of noise during the final game of the day.
Greenacre Sports Co-ordinator Kerry Searle said that the day had been an excellent success. The good news for the club is that four youngsters returned to the club that very evening and a number of calls have already been received asking for more details about the club because of the Open Day.
